Learning to Sew - Beginner Series #3 - SHIRT - Your First Project

Alright you've made it! It is time to sew your first garment! Jessy will walk you through this process helping you with tips and tricks of the trade. Or perhaps less tricks and more just a confidence boost knowing someone will be there to help you through if you get stuck. This class will focus on completing Shirt No. 1 from 100 Acts of Sewing and is a total of 6 hours with a 1 hour lunch break. 

In this class you will learn:

• Seam edge finishing
• Collar finish
• Hemming edges

Before Class:

• Buy, wash, and cut out fabric from traced out pattern (should be ready to start sewing!)

What to bring:

• Sewing Machine and bobbin
• cut out fabric pieces and your left over fabric (just in case!)
• matching thread
• bias tape
• seam gauge
• pins/clips
• sewing scissors
• fabric marking utensil
• pattern and instructions

Beginner Series classes #1 and #2 are *not* required to take this course. However it will be assumed you have generally the knowledge covered in those two classes for this one. Such as, tracing patterns, ability to read pattern, and ability to use your own/borrowed sewing machine. 

Purchasing this class provides you with the teaching time. You will also need to purchase the amount of fabric needed for the size of pants you wish to make from SEAMS. We require the purchase of fabric from SEAMS since the class price is entirely in support of the teacher. The SEAMS Team greatly appreciates you supporting both the teacher and the store.

This class is a bring your own machine class. If you are unfamiliar with using your machine please book an one hour "Get to Know Your Machine" one on one class by emailing events@seamsfabric.com.

There is one machine available to borrow in class if you do not have your own. Please email events@seamsfabric.com if you wish to use this machine it is first come first serve.

Skill Level:	Beginner
Skill Details:	Familiar with sewing machine and straight stitch and zigzag. Familiar with pattern tracing and cutting prep.

Instructor Bio:	Jessy is the founder and owner of Seams! This real-life Wonder Woman serves on East Lansing City Council, founded an athletic organization with 1400 members, and raises four awesome kids. With her BFA in printmaking and bronze sculpture former life as a successful art quilter, three -dimensional art is in every fiber of Jessy's being.
