Cupro is a regenerative cellulose fabric made from cotton waste. It is manufactured using the small, silky fibers known as “Linter” that protrude from the cotton seed but are too small to spin into yarn. The Linter is dissolved into a cupromonium solution made from copper and ammonia, mixed with a caustic soda, and then spun into fiber. Similar to Tencel and Modal, Cupro is a plant based fiber made with chemical processing to create its silky smooth fiber. Cupro’s origin as cotton waste makes it a recycled textile. Since cotton production is an enormously resource intensive process, using every bit of the plant helps reduce waste. Unlike silk, Cupro is a vegan, plant based fiber and machine washable, reducing the need for dry cleaning (and it’s environmental impact). Like silk, it’s luxuriously smooth and drapes beautifully.
